A letter to Dana White of the UFC
53
For some time now, I've wanted to work for the UFC as a staff photographer. A dream has a way of staying in one's heart and mind, and this dream has been the strongest of any I've ever had. It's a known fact that photography is a very competitive business, and that my chances may be few and far between. All I know is that I love photography, MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. So while I was wading through the endless sea of job sites, I put down what exactly I would say if I ever got the chance to write to Dana White, the president of the UFC. Well, here it is...
To Dana White:
For a couple of years now, I've wanted to join the UFC as a staff photographer. My passion for MMA has grown, as has my love for photography. For the past year and a half, I have taken pictures of my friends at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments, and have captured some amazing moves, wins, losses, but have always come away exhilarated. There is nothing I like more than to look back on the shots I've taken and discover I got a clear shot of an armbar or heelhook! It's hard work, this profession, but I'll take the aching feet and everything else that comes with it. The drive to become a professional in the sports photography field is stronger than ever, but it's MMA that is my true passion. I recently had the chance to take pictures for a friend of mine who fought (and won!), and I wanted more than anything to be right up at the cage. My friend was executing some great moves, and I wanted to capture what that staff photographer was shooting. I did come away with some great shots (see above), and some great memories, but I wanted to do so much more. All of these tournaments and fights have continued to fuel that drive, and that's why I'm now writing to you.
I may only have a simple FujiPix S5200 camera and not much else, but I what I lack in camera equipment, I make up for with drive. All I ask is to be given the chance to show what I can do. MMA is a sport that I love, and I know I can capture all those moments like the pros can. Maybe not today, but someday, I can show you and the UFC what I can do.
Sincerely,
Mary H.
I don't know if this letter will ever be sent to him. At least my passion, my drive, and my heart's desire is out there. I hope one day I can say I'll be working for the UFC. Until then, I'll be checking the job boards for work.
